I'm so sorry to hear how your Mom's condition is progressing. My Mama had what they called Senile Parkinson's, but it was just Alzheimer's as far as the way it progressed. From what I've read, LBD is much harder for the family to deal with emotionally, since there are quite often drastic personality changes. I'll have to admit, though, that I got kicked and bitten a few times by my sweet Mama, so maybe personality changes come with all of these types of diseases.

I'll be thinking of you and your family, as you make those tough decisions about where is the best place for her to be.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out these sites.

Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are diseases that not only destroy the body, but the mind as well. Combining them in one disease is just too much. You have to be strong now, and give your full support to your mom. She needs you now more than ever.

Thanks Alice, for the reassuring comments. Unfortunately, Mom died in October 2008. See http://katekelsall.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/11/easing-the-pain-of-death.html.

I have just recently been hearing about lewy body disorder. Do you know if it is passed on through genetics like alzheimer's and parkinson's or has that been looked into yet?

Jen ,
Thanks for your comments. Lewy Body Dementia is not my area of expertise. However, this organization may be able to answer your questions: http://www.lbda.org/
